19 years ago today....

I married my honey!

We had to get married twice as our timing was off. The wedding was scheduled on Sunday after church. We dutifully went to get our liscense on Friday afternoon. The clerk informed us that we couldn't get married in Texas on Sunday, we would have to wait til Monday. Oh that was not good! The wedding was planned, people were coming from out of town...we had to get married on Sunday!

Then one of the two of us had a brilliant thought...or maybe it was our pastor as he was counseling us over this situation we had found ourself in. Arkansas did not have a wait period, soooooooooo why not get married in Arkansas Sunday before church then have the wedding as planned Sunday after church??? That made sense to us! we found a J.O.P. in AR that would marry us. We were set! We were for sure doubly wed by the end of the day.

As we set off for our honeymoon in Jefferson, TX we counted our money. We were rich!...well at least in love we were. We had $17. between us. Wes's boss lent us his car to drive as I don't think ours would have made it the 70 or so miles and back. He filled it up with gasoline for us and gave us an additional $40. We were set! The Bed and Breakfast was all paid for so there was nothing else we needed.

He stopped all along the drive and picked wild flowers for me. I had the most beautiful bouquet by the time we got to Jefferson. Someone had bought us Kentucky Fried Chicken and put it in the car before we left town. That was our dinner.

The t.v. was showing the long lost episode of "I love Lucy" that night. We watched it...

The cabin we stayed in had three different bedrooms. We could sleep on any one or all of them. I felt like Goldilocks! We ended up in the room with the fluffiest mattress and most pillows with an air-conditioner that blew right across the bed, Wes's favorite place for an a.c.

He has been more than I ever dreamed a husband could be. He has taught me things that I never knew I needed to know. He has been my best cheerleader in life, and he will be with me, as we sit on our front porch, when we are 80 or 90 something years old listening to the birds chirp, watching the kittens play and listening to the song of each other's heart.

I love that man!

That is one of the sweetest things I've ever read, thank you so much for brightening up my day. I'm glad to hear that the two of you are still so happy as the years have gone by. But from the sounds of your wedding day, it shouldn't be surprising that your relationship will persevere through anything.
